Tell us a bit about your wedding! What inspired your choices?
We had a classic “love story” wedding filled with vibrant pink and red florals with gold and glass accents to give an elegant feel. I love antiques, so we chose to have pink vintage-like glasses on the head tables with gold chargers and blush napkins. For the round tables, we decided to make half the tables covered with lace tablecloths and the other half with white velvet. I loved the variety! We placed romance books on the tables as well to provide a little more detail. All the tables were decorated with the most beautiful florals and antique style gold candlesticks. We also wanted to add to our “love story” aesthetic by incorporating a Kissing Booth for photographs. It seemed to be a hit with our guests! Lights and greenery were also draped across the ceiling, making you feel as though you were walking into a fairytale as you entered the venue. It was like a dream!
What was your favorite part of your wedding day?
My favorite part of our wedding day was actually something we almost didn’t do…we decided to have a last dance privately as a couple as everyone else waited outside. There was just something so special about being alone in this beautiful room dancing to a sweet song after the most perfect day, knowing that now we are about to start this new journey as husband and wife. It was magical.
How did you and your partner meet?
Although we went to school together, we actually didn’t meet until later on in life. We had some mutual friends, so we started talking and we eventually went on a movie date. On our way to the theater, “I’m the One” by DJ Khaled came on the radio and it became one of our songs over the years…in case anyone at our wedding was wondering why our bridal party walked down the aisle to the piano version of this rap song, that was why!
Tell us the story of your proposal!
On our three-year anniversary, we picked up dinner at one of our favorite restaurants in town. We had to get it to-go because it was during the pandemic. I remember coming home and James had our china out, so we scooped all our food out of the styrofoam containers and onto our dinnerware. James had candles and flowers on the table, along with all sorts of little gifts! He had also scattered rose petals in the shape of a heart on the floor. After dinner, I opened the gifts and each one resembled a moment we had shared in the three years we had been together. It was so sweet! He had music playing in the background and we slow danced in the dining room. Then, he said he had one more thing to give me and had me close my eyes. At first, I thought I knew what he was about to do, but then it sounded like he was pushing something heavy across the floor and I knew I was wrong. He was just trying to trick me! When he told me to open my eyes, he was kneeling on one knee with the cutest smile on his face and a sparkly ring in his hand. He asked if I would marry him and, of course, I said yes!
What are the two of you planning on tackling next in life?
Well, I think the first thing we need to tackle is training our puppy we got about a month or so before our wedding. It probably wasn’t the best timing to get a pup so close to our special day, but when we found out our dog’s parents had puppies, we just had to adopt one! We hoped we could train her well enough for our Yorkies to make an appearance at the wedding, but she just wasn’t ready for something like that. This chew-monster is definitely getting better, but we still have some work to do. Maybe once this little fellow is fully grown, we might think about adding to our family!
What is something unique you incorporated into your wedding/reception?
We had a ‘Kissing Booth’ set up so guests could take pictures in a fun area at our photobooth. At first, I didn’t think I cared if we had a photo area or not, but James said he had been to a friend’s wedding who had one and it was a blast. He really liked how the guests at his friend’s wedding were able to take home pictures of the night and so we decided it was something we wanted to do too! Since we were trying to go with sort of a “love story” theme, I thought a kissing booth would be perfect. I wanted the evening to feel like a romance/fairytale for everyone and this was a great touch!
Do you have any advice for other couples who are planning their own wedding right now?
I think the best advice would be to take a moment the day of your wedding and really appreciate what is happening around you. It goes by so fast! Oh and I would also recommend not skipping the sunset pictures…I thought about asking the photographer and coordinator if we could maybe just stay inside and enjoy a little more time at the reception, but I’m so glad we took the sunset pictures! They didn’t take very long and they turned out to be some of the sweetest photographs.
What has been your favorite part about working with The Silo?
I loved everything about working with The Silo! Everyone we spoke with was so knowledgeable and friendly throughout this entire process. The Silo has so many amenities and the venue is absolutely beautiful. One of the things I loved most is that it was also large enough for us to have the ceremony and reception inside. I knew it was going to be hot out and it was a huge deal to be able to keep everyone inside and cool at our ceremony and reception. Thank you so much for everything! It was absolutely perfect.
