Tell us a bit about your wedding! What inspired your choices?

For our wedding we wanted it to have a modern yet timeless and classic feel. We both like the clean look of a neutral color pallette, so we used mostly white, black, and gray, with a lot of greenery and white florals throughout as decor.

What was your favorite part of your wedding day?

It's so hard to choose! The whole day was incredible. One of the most special moments was when we said our handwritten vows to each other during the ceremony in front of our closest family and friends. I think that will always stand out the most to me from our wedding day.

How did you and your partner meet?

It's funny, but we actually met during the height of the Pokémon Go craze in the summer of 2016. We became fast friends hunting for Pokémon together, and it was a couple years after that that we started dating.

Tell us the story of your proposal!

We went to Chicago in April of 2021 for a long weekend trip that turned out to be so much more special than I anticipated! Chicago is one of our favorite places, and we have so many good memories from there.

Johnny had made plans for us to go a on a dinner cruise on the river that was so lovely. We got dressed up, had the most delicious dinner, and enjoyed beautiful views of the Chicago skyline at night.

It was the perfect evening, but I couldn't help but notice that Johnny kept slightly moving away from me when I tried to pull him in close for photos together, and I was getting frustrated. We laugh about this so much now, because what I didn't realize at the time was that he was worried I would feel the ring box in his pocket.

After the cruise we were coming back up to street level from the river, walking up a beautiful grand staircase, no one else around. Johnny started slowing down and saying all these incredibly sweet things, and I'm not going to lie, I was NOT catching on - in my mind I was thinking, "that is so nice and I love you so much, but it's freezing, let's keep moving!"

Johnny stopped me and got down on one knee, and in that moment I was so happy and surprised, and I said yes as fast as I could. I definitely wasn't thinking about the weather anymore. He had done so much planning to make sure that the timing of the proposal was a total surprise, and it was so special.

What are the two of you planning on tackling next in life?

Traveling for sure! We just went to Iceland for our first wedding anniversary and had the most amazing time. We still have a lot of places on our bucket lists that we want to explore together.

What is something unique you incorporated into your wedding/reception?

We had a bounce house at our reception that was a hit! It was all white so it even fit the aesthetic we were going for. We had so much fun ourselves bouncing around with our wedding party, and got some pretty great photos from it. We're both big kids at heart so it was perfect for us! 10/10 highly recommend.

Do you have any advice for other couples who are planning their own wedding right now?

Don't sweat the small stuff. At the end of the day it's about the two of you making a lifelong commitment to each other, and so many of the things you may be stressing about won't even end up mattering to you. It's so easy to get caught up in the planning and lose focus of what it's really about.

What has been your favorite part about working with The Silo?

We absolutely loved how easy the team at The Silo was to work with. Their communication with us was top notch - we could always count on a quick reply to any questions we had, and they made everything about the process so clear and easy to understand. Also, our day of coordinator from The Silo made the whole day run smoothly, which we were so thankful for.
